SCP-173 (Reinterpretation)

SCP-173 (Reinterpretation)

I recently took a quick stab at redesigning/reinterpreting SCP-173 for an art collaboration with the SCP Foundation.

My interpretation of SCP-173

The SCP (Secure, Contain, Protect) Foundation is a fictional clandestine organization dedicated to containing dangerous and incomprehensible horrors, keeping them safely from the light of day — or so goes their mission statement.

I based my design on a bunch of random doodles I made after reading the main descriptions.

There are several stories created by contributors on the SCP Wiki, a wiki-based collaborative writing project, which launched in 2008 and have captured the imagination of thousands of people.

SCP-173, affectionately referred to as “Peanut” is one of the most famous entities within the SCP lore. The creature was originally based off an image of Artist Izumi Kato’s Untitled 2004. Due to numerous circumstances, primarily related to the original image‘s licensing, Untitled 2004 was removed from the original wiki article and, per the wishes of the text’s original author, not replaced. I grew up reading a few of the horror/creepypasta stories on the SCP Wiki and so when I saw the call for an art collaboration, I knew I had to squeeze some time in to get something done.

I tried to get the design as far away from the original design while still keeping the essence of the creature and think of something solely based on the description of SCP-173.

You can view my submission above on the Official SCP-173 Collab Hub in Gallery 4.

I think it turned out alright. What do you think?
